For All Mankind

Earlier this year, I was proud to work on "For All Mankind", a new series by Ronald D. Moore (of "Battlestar Galactica" fame) for the new Apple TV+ streaming platform. The story concerns an alternate history version of the space race, and begins in the late 1960s at NASA, at the height of the Apollo program.
I was tasked with creating some matte painted views of Cape Canaveral and the views from high up on the Saturn V rocket gantry. Not only did the views need to be completely photo real, but they also needed to reflect the launch complex the way it looked in 1969.
I also painted 2 views of the rocket park at the Johnson Space Center in Houston at night. The first view utilized a plate shot in downtown Los Angeles, and required heavy overpainting to make it look like the space complex with a rocket on display on the facility's lawn. The second view starts looking behind the actors, and tilting up to show the rocket towering above. I essentially replaced the entire background.
